PRx: Conquista III, 2010. Installation. Psychopharmaceuticals and canvas cloth.
This is a map of Puerto Rico shaped by over 200 genuine psycho-pharmaceuticals donated by a single individual: my mother. In the 1990s, the Puerto Rican Government created tax incentives for pharmaceutical companies to move into the island. This was a new form of colonialism that impacted labor, climate, economy, and produced a wave of over-medication in a population of people impacted by systemic oppression. This work unveils a third conquest of the island, my mother-land, by pharmaceutical companies.
